Bible Hill, August 24,2006 -
Residents in the Village of Bible Hill, Colchester County, will have an improved wastewater system, thanks to funding through the Canada-Nova Scotia Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund.
Federal and provincial funding of $235,818 was announced today for the project which includes the replacement of a sanitary sewer along Main Street between Riverside Avenue and Avon Street. The Village of Bible Hill will fund the balance of the $353,727 project upon formal acceptance of the agreement and environmental assessment approval.
"This project will help ensure that the quality of life for residents in Bible Hill is maintained,” said Jamie Muir, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. “Meeting provincial and municipal priorities such as upgrading our wastewater systems is integral to enhancing community infrastructure.”
“Canada’s new government wants communities to have the kind of infrastructure that will help them provide a high quality of life for their citizens and that will contribute to their economic base,” said Bill Casey, Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley, speaking on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
The new infrastructure program supports community infrastructure improvements, such as water, wastewater, and solid waste management.
“We are pleased that this important project is moving forward, thanks to funding from our federal and provincial partners,” said Christine Blair, chair of the Village of Bible Hill. “The good health and safety of Bible Hill residents is our top priority.”
The $111-million, six-year Canada-Nova Scotia Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund is administered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation and the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities are members of the management committee.
